IRCTC Connect Mobile App Review

There is a lot a hype surrounding the launch of this long awaited app. Although it packs in several essential features for planning your travel and booking train tickets, there are several features missing. The major one is lack of ‘Tatkal Booking‘ feature, which is one of the important tools for booking tickets at the last minute.

On the bright side, this application features a simple and clean User interface. It directly opens up to the ‘Travel planning’ screen. You need to select the Origin and Destination stations along with the date of journey. All the available trains along with seat availability status will be displayed. Next, you need to enter the passenger details and proceed to payment. Everything is processed in the same screen.

Ironically, IRCTC decided to implement intrusive advertisements in the app. It hurts the usability and simplicity of the app. And I don’t understand why a multi-billion dollar corporation is obsessed with earning a few extra bucks. Another feature missing is ‘Reset Password‘, in case you forget your IRCTC password.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that the app is still in it’s early stage. There are several features and functionality missing. It seriously needs to remove the ‘8 AM to 12 PM‘ restriction and allow tatkal quota bookings. It will be very useful once all these features are added.
